I’m Mark Priestap, an interaction designer & front-end developer residing in sparkling Monclova, Ohio. I solve problems and beautify things. Yep, I’m available for freelancing. Interested? Check out my skills.
Philosophy of Design
Design is problem solving — especially the problems you didn’t know you had. If you’ve never had bacon you don't know what you’re missing.
Back in ’98 I took a job as a lacky at a local firm and discovered a love for Photoshop and Illustrator. That turned into a UX design gig at About Golf and that morphed into web design & development for HCR Manor Care (internal app design).
In ’05 I established Designwise Studios LLC (later to be designwise.me) as my freelancing storefront. One thing led to another and eventually I landed at Aol (Weblogs, Inc.), Desiring God and Forge Apps where I was able to collaborate on loads of exciting, high visibility projects. Some of the sites I've designed include Engadget, TUAW, Autoblog, Desiring God, Lightstock, Wallet Pop (Aol), Gadling (Aol), Green Daily (Aol), Denver Seminary, & Monk Development, Ask Pastor John App, and many others. Some of the designs have changed since then.
Here are some nice things a few clients & colleagues have said about my work.
Update: As of May ’13 I was hired full-time at Revive Our Hearts Ministries as Sr. Visual Interaction Designer. I’m grateful to be part of their talented media team.
I grew up in Northwest Ohio and attended THE Ohio State University ’98 graduating with a BFA in Drawing & Painting.
My wife Meredith and I were married in 1999 and have three children who are not quite old enough to hire as interns. We attend Peace Reformed Church in Napoleon, Ohio where we are weekly reminded that while we are yet sinners, Christ died for our sins, freeing us from the power of sin and death and making us sons of God, on whom we trust, for he alone is able to save. We were once guilty, but he has taken our guilt on himself. Now the dread of God’s wrath is gone and is replaced with rest and peace.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, reading theology books, doing voice impressions, playing guitar, playing softball, & listening to podcasts. My favorite is Pilgrim Talk Radio.
